revelation
today at lunch there was a conversation happening that was clearly about me. i'm getting more adept at knowing these things. i asked ida what they were talking about. she said she was telling royce how she makes sure that restaurants take my gluten allergy seriously.
"how do you do it?"
"i look at them very seriously, and tell them that you are my boss and if anything happens to you, i'll lose my job."
this is only the beginning of the many reasons why i LOVE this girl.

10 on 10: july
i couldn't take pictures on the 10th this month, as our camera was with chad in tibet. he spent several days with nomads who live only on what is provided by the yaks they raise. he was, for many, one of the few white people they had seen. he introduced them to the frisbee, blackberry, and digital camera. they showed him how to ride a yak, get heat from yak dung, and served him yak butter with yak milk. while he was there, he took pictures that made me want to marry him all over again. so here is this month's 10 on 10:

i don't want to go to hell
today we were discussing the weather, which felt very comfortable to me, despite the temperature being similiar to weeks past. hoping that i was getting used to it ... i said, "is it cooler than usual today, or am i adjusting?"
"it's cooler."
"ah, shoot. i had hoped that i was getting less sensitive to the heat."
"no, it will get so much hotter. you won't be able to breathe." "it is ... how do i compare it??
... it is like hell."
"hmmm... so in english, hell would be like a fiery place of eternal suffering and punishment. i'm not sure the chinese interpretation is so harsh."
"yep. it will be like the english one."
