the weather is beautiful right now in shanghai, but spring has been known to awaken my allergies, and sneezing in china when you are an american does not go over well with the locals these days. i'm pretty sure i could send people running by just saying the word sneeze. maybe even whispering.
at the doctor's office yesterday, chad and i were greeted w/ a table full of materials on 'the flu', in addition to a costco size bottle of purell. we checked in; and while standing in front of the receptionist desk, i asked chad if there had been any cases of the swine flu in china yet. he said he wasn't sure, and we both looked to the receptionist for an answer.
big mistake.
huge.
her eyes grew large, and she quickly left to converse w/ other nurses in the room just beyond. in a moment, a woman in gloves and a mask came out and wanted to take our temperatures. 'um, i didn't say i HAD the flu, i was just...'
thermometer in ear ... waiver in hand.
'no, i have not been close touch or expose around pigs'
'no, i have not had feverish'
'no, i have not been around anyone with a fever' (mostly)
have i been to swine central countries within the last week?
i don't even want to know what happens if i say yes to that.
